Our first stop was at Cousins Ale Works, a family-owned brewery in Wappingers Falls. We tried a flight of their signature beers, including the Hop Sauce IPA and the Blackberry Stout, which were both delicious. We sampled a flight of ciders, including the crisp and refreshing Rose and the complex and flavorful Stone Dry.
The final stop on our tour was at Newburgh Brewing Company in Newburgh. This brewery has a cool, industrial vibe and a huge selection of beers on tap. We tried everything from the light and refreshing Cream Ale to the rich and complex Brown Ale. We especially enjoyed the brewery’s flagship beer, the Newburgh Brown, which had a nutty, caramel flavor.
Throughout the tour, Joe kept us engaged and entertained with his anecdotes and insider knowledge about the Hudson Valley’s craft scene. We learned about the challenges facing small, independent brewers and the creative ways they are finding to overcome them. We also got to know the other guests on our tour, who were all passionate about craft beer and eager to learn more.
